Microbat Workshop with Tony Hodge
11th August 2019
What an incredible workshop! Our recent Eco Action Microbat workshop with bat carer and zoologist Tony Hodge was a night of bat education and fun! We saw cute bats up close and helped our special guests to make bat boxes for their backyards.
Did you know that we are living beside microbats all around the Perth area? Many people are surprised to discover how common microbats are because they mostly go undetected by humans due to their nocturnal lifestyle, minuscule size, and echolocation calls that are outside of our human audible frequency. Microbats are insectivorous and provide us with the vital ecosystem service of keeping mosquito numbers down. In fact, one microbat can consume approximately 1,200 mosquitoes and other small insects in one night alone!
